📝 Fresh Picks

🔦 Favorite bedtime reading light* for kids (and myself!) This tiny clip-on reading light has been an amazing buy for my boys. And I ended up grabbing one for myself after I saw how well they worked - and how easy they are to charge. The light has a cover over what looks like a USB flash drive, which you just stick in a USB-C charger. We have three of them and bought the first one nine months ago and it's still going strong. Aside from the ease of charging (no silly cord to keep up with 😅), my other favorite feature is the ability to change both the brightness of the light and the color (more yellow or white depending on your preference).

🧰 Teaching Tools

🔬 This science video is epic. This creator takes the parts of the atmosphere and puts it to one of my family's favorite tunes - "The Wellerman" Sea Shanty. This song can't not get stuck in your head. Sorry! (And excuse the double-negative, it was necessary.) "We love the atmosphere, keeps us safe and warm down here, five layers tier by tier, in the atmosphere." See? I'm singing it while I'm writing this.

📚 On My Bookshelf

📙 The Three R's* by Ruth Beechick - This book promotes a very gentle, or natural, style of learning. Dr. Beechick focuses on paying attention to when your child is ready for a new skill rather than rigidly follow a curriculum. She has many helpful lists of activities as well as a suggested learning path. Read my full review here.

📕 The Mercy Watson Series* by Kate Dicamillo - Have you met this pig? These short chapter/picture books are so stinkin' cute (excuse my southern). They are great for kiddos to read themselves or to be read to. In my house they have entertained kids from ages 4-8 at least. And as an additional fun read (or a step up) Dicamillo has a spin-off series of chapter books "Tales from Deckawoo Drive*." These are a bit more expensive and lack the colorful illustrations, but they are just as entertaining. The characters in these books stick with you. My favorite is grumpy Eugenia Lincoln. She shows up in both series - as many of the endearing characters do.

✨ Just for Fun

📂Turn a webpage into a PDF Document - Printfriendly.com lets you create FREE PDFs of all sorts of files, or turn PDFs into other documents (like Word). Better yet, there's no software to download, and you can edit the PDF before you print it. For example, if you are converting a webpage and want to delete certain pictures to save ink or take out individual sections that aren't of interest to you, you can do it with the click of a garbage-can-emoji. 🗑️
