Earlier this week, my kids and I ran into a neighbor at the library. We hadn't seen them in a while because they live a street over. But the mom kindly invited us to a block party that several families on her street were having. We went at 11 this morning, planning to stay an hour or two, and got home at 3:00. Needless to say, the kids had a ball and I did too!

While we were there I chatted with another mom who was also homeschooled back "when it was weird." This reminded me how grateful I am that it has become just another option for our kids rather than "weird." And I'm so grateful for the plethora of activities and classes that my kids can participate in compared to the 90's.

Here’s what's new this week...

πŸ“ Fresh Picks

Mix & Match Summer Bingo - I love the idea of a summer bucket list or bingo card for my kids to do fun activities. But I also love the idea of letting the kids design their own. So, I created a new Bingo Board game with 5 different categories of "cards" to choose from. Just cut and paste to create your own board...

  • Learning Activities
  • Just for Fun
  • Challenges
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Goofy Time

Grab the bingo board for free in my Free Printables Page this week only. I will be adding it to my shop soon, but wanted to give all my subscribers a chance to grab it for free first!

Tuttle Twins America's History Volume 1 Checklist - I just added this new checklist to my Free Printables Page as well. You'll find it in the "history" section. My children and I have started listening to this book (Tuttle Twins America's History Volume 1*) together this summer. We've enjoyed listening to the audiobook version while chilling, drawing, coloring, etc.

Free Summer Reading Challenge - Free printable pack sent straight to your inbox from Heart and Soul Homeschooling.

🧰 Teaching Tools

Ant Factory* - With summer here, I'm looking for activities to keep my kids busy and happy (and learning). Previously, we have "raised" butterflies (with a kit like this one). This summer, we are going to have an ant factory (or farm) - as soon as our ants arrive!

Book Recommendations from AALP* - All About Learning Press has free downloads, including the following that you can access from their free resources page here*:

πŸ“š On My Bookshelf

Brambly Hedge* - my six-year-old and I have been reading this book together that we borrowed from the library. But, she apparently likes it so much she's been reading it at night by herself. I don't know if I've ever read it before, but the pictures are just magical and take me back to the wonder of childhood.

Beatrix Potter Stories* - I recently purchased this edition to give to a friend at a baby shower. My children and I have read several of the Peter Rabbit and other BP stories together before. And they are lovely - not to mention the pictures!

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh* - To continue the cute rodents theme from the previous books, I still remember being enthralled by this book when my fifth grade teacher read it aloud to us. (I was in public school before I was homeschooled.) My children and I enjoyed listening to this one together in the past year. So, if you're looking for a chapter book for your slightly older kids, you might enjoy this one.
