The electricians called to me from downstairs to ask me a question about the lights they were installing. As I walked down the stairs, I saw my couch had been moved from against the wall (for the first time in years). The pile of nasty, dirty, dusty, grossness they'd uncovered made me want to sink into the floor. The kind men assured me they had seen much worse, but I'm not sure I have.
So, when you read my emails and think because I publish this newsletter and have a website that I'm some sort of super-homeschool-mom, just remember my couch. I don't have it all together. I'm just sharing the good (and bad) stuff I learn along the way. You've got this!!
Hereβs what's new this week...
π Fresh Picks
βThe Ultimate Homeschooling Bundle 2026* - I always like checking out pop-up bundles like this to see if they have anything useful for my homeschool.
βHomeschool Resource Co* - If you like searching an online marketplace for digital resources for your homeschool, check out this new website specifically for homeschoolers. (It's similar to TeachersPayTeachers.)
βThe Gen Z Roadmap for Launching Your Own Business - Free webinar on Monday, June 15 @ 8 PM Eastern. Discover how young faith-based entrepreneurs are earning real income, serving real customers, and building real skills. (I registered, although my kids are a bit young for this. Probably more applicable to high schoolers.)
βLittle Big Stuff - Musicals for faith-based groups. I discovered this website recently and wanted to pass it along. One of my favorite Bible study teachers, Nancy Guthrie (not the one who was in the news missing recently), is married to one of the guys who writes these musicals.
π§° Teaching Tools
βNight Zookeeper Summer Learning - I have not used this program but it sounds like a great option for online learning through the summer (or during the school year!).
βSimply Spelling - (Oops! I forgot to add the link to this one last week, so here it is again.) This computer-based spelling program is FREE, and apparently kids can do it independently. A friend recommended it to me and has been pleased with it; I think she used it as a supplement or for review. It is produced by The Good and the Beautiful. (I know this company is Mormon, but from what I've heard, it tends more toward neutral.)
βMEL Science Kits* - Looking for screen-free summer science and STEM activities? Check out MEL Science kits. Read my review here.
βKIWI Crate Kits* - SALE - 20% off with code MEMSALE. We have used and loved KIWI Crates for years. They STEAM kits (think STEM + art) for ages 0-100.
π On My Bookshelf
βGeorge Washington's World* - Since we are studying US history this coming year, I grabbed this book. From my initial perusal, I love the engaging language and fun anecdotes about each person. Each part (I-VI) tells you what was going on "When George Washington was a Boy," or a soldier, a farmer, etc. It tells the stories of the people who lived when Washington lived, "what they did when they were children, and of how later on the pattern of their lives fitted together, and what part each one played in that greatest of all adventure stories, the History of the World."
βAbraham Lincoln's World* - I don't have this one (yet) but it's in the same series. I assume it follows the same format of story-based anecdotal history. From my brief perusal of the Washington one, I plan to add this to our library at some point.
β¨ Just for Fun
βHe Knew What I Was Thinking - Story time with Mr. Ballen - I cannot recall if this was "kid-safe" because it's been several months since I watched this, but it was a fascinating conversation about his endurance, mindset, and ability to do magic tricks.
π° Deals and Steals
βAll About Learning Press* - monthly GIVEAWAY - May is a free All About Math level of your choice
βHomeschool Buyers Club - Memorial Day Sale - additional 20%-80% off
