I mentioned last week how much has changed over the years in our homeschool, as my kids have grown. One other thing that I have noticed this year with my three kids between first and fifth grade...I really enjoy reading with them more. My husband and I were discussing it recently, and he observed that it's more enjoyable because they can actually sit still and listen! Of course, when they were little and chewed on their books, they were still learning when we read, but I've been delighted with how much more fun it has gotten as they have grown.

🧰 Teaching Tools

​Explode the Code* - I've used this for years with all three kids to practice phonics concepts that they've learned in All About Reading. I just pulled out book 4 to use with my 3rd grader and remember how much I like these for a simple review exercise. Here is a link to my articles that line up AAR with ETC:

​Gardening Course (Christian, K-5) - I just saw this advertised on RainbowResource.com, and it looks really neat. If you're interested in gardening with your kids and want some direction or to make an elective out of it, you might check this out. I love watercolor illustrations, and that alone caught my eye. They also have videos you can use and workbooks for both K-2 and 3-5.

​Nessy Reading & Spelling - My kids have a love-hate relationship with Nessy. For the most part they like it and ask to do it, but there are tears at times too. Currently, I have two eagerly working on the spelling portion (and the tears have dried at the moment!)...But I have found it really helpful for keeping them busy learning while I work with a sibling or get another task done. My kids have also enjoyed their Typing program. Scroll down on the shop page to see their bundle offers.

📚 On My Bookshelf

​George Washington's World* - We've only read a couple stories in this so far, but I love how it weaves history together around a time period. Apparently this series was originally written in the 1970s and has just been republished.
